PROGRAM
FORTRESS OF CIVITELLA DEL TRONTO

1° day

Arrival at the hotel, in the peculiar village of Civitella del Tronto; assignment of the rooms and start of the guided visit to the fortress. This one is ocated at 600 meters above the sea level, in a strategical position to the old northern border between the viceroyalty of Napoli and the Papal State. The Fortress of Civitella is the largest in Italy, the second in Europe after the Hohensalzburg in Salzburg, Austria. It is located on the top of a rocky cliff, being about 500 metres (1,600 ft) long and 45 metres (148 ft) wide, for a total surface of 25,000 square metres (270,000 sq ft).Return to the hotel for dinner with typical Abruzzo dishes.  Overnight.

MONTE GIRELLA

2° day

Breakfast at the hotel, start of the excursion to the peak of Monte Girella

Packed lunch provided by the Hotel (2 sandwitches, fruits and drink)

The Monti Gemelli and especially Monte Girella are totally different than the rest of the park. They are apart from Monti della Laga and Gran Sasso and are characterized by beautiful environments that pass from shaded woods in the lower heights to the small lake at a higher level and the beautiful lawns covered with flowers in the Spring time.  That is a magic explosion of colors.

Excursion that make you appreciate the awakeness of the Nature in its totality. Continuing through the gorge, you will find and visit many hemitages of the XII and XIII century, located in points difficult to access. Outside the gorges arise Castel Manfrino, on a cliff as guard to the valley; Today we can see just a few ruins of the walls that were part of the castle.
